Organizational and program development assistance typically involves a variety of techniques focused on problem solving, skill building, knowledge acquisition, individualized coaching, and group training.
  
Pathfinder Solutions, Inc. provides a range of organizational and program development services. We conduct needs assessments, help develop strategic plans, facilitate meetings and collaboration, build evaluation capacity, and provide technical assistance for other organizational development issues having to do with board governance, leadership and management, service delivery, internal and external relations, communications and marketing, volunteer management, and resource development.
     

Select Project Descriptions

¨        Path With A Heart – Pathfinder Solutions is currently presenting a variety of training workshops and presentations for the Path With A Heart Initiative for a variety of organizations, including the Council on Foundations, Emerging Practitioners in Philanthropy, Young Nonprofit Professionals Network, and groups of Colorado, Oklahoma, and New Mexico foundations. This initiative is focused on leadership succession challenges for foundations and nonprofits. ¨        Parent Child Center of Tulsa - Under contract with the George Kaiser Family Foundation (Oklahoma, 2009-present), Pathfinder Solutions is providing organizational capacity building technical assistance to this agency focused on child abuse and neglect treatment and prevention.

    

¨       Grand Futures - Under contract with the Anschutz Family Foundation (Colorado 2009-present), Pathfinder Solutions is providing capacity building support for a three-county coalition working to alleviate substance abuse challenges for youth and families. 

    

¨       Rocky Mountain Youth Corps - Leaders of Rocky Mountain Youth Corps (Colorado 2009-present) have contracted Pathfinder Solutions to assist in building strategic partnerships and advance strategic planning centered on positive youth development in Routt County.

    

¨        Center for African American Health – Under a four-year initiative funded by The Colorado Trust (Colorado, 2007-2011), Pathfinder Solutions serves as on a Technical Assistance Team coordinated by Tri-County Health Department to provide organizational capacity and program development assistance to a number of grantees, including the Center for African American Health. Alex has helped the project lead at CAAH develop brand new and most welcomed health and wellness services for African American seniors in Denver. She has also focused on organizational capacity assessment and resource development.

  

¨        Bent County Healthcare Center – Under the same initiative funded by The Colorado Trust, the Healthy Aging Initiative (Colorado, 2007-2011), Pathfinder Solutions provides organizational capacity and program development services to this rural nursing home and assisted living facility in southeastern Colorado. With BCHCC, Pathfinder Solutions has focused efforts on comprehensive strategic planning, evaluation, and development of an Adult Day Service program. BCHCC uses an “Eden Alternative” approach that is a lovely aspect of this model facility.  

  

¨        Foundation Learning Circles Through a grant from the Council on Foundations this program was developed for the Conference of Southwest Foundations (multi-state, 2007 to 2008) – Pathfinder Solutions developed the process and tools and co-facilitated a series of eight Foundation Learning Circles focused on foundation governance and management, strategic grantmaking, organizational learning and grant evaluation. CEO’s and Board members from 69 foundations participated in these interactive round table discussions held across four states. 

  

¨        Senior Resource Development Agency – With funding for Tri-County Health Department’s TA Team, The Colorado Trust’s Health Aging Initiative (Colorado, 2007-2011) allows Pathfinder Solutions to work regularly with this outstanding agency in Pueblo, Colorado. Pathfinder Solutions has helped Board and staff with communications and marketing, strategic planning, program development, database development, evaluation, and governance issues.  

  

¨        South Central Council on Governments – Again supported by The Colorado Trust and the Tri-County Health Department (Colorado, 2007-2011), this organization provides the lion’s share of social services, from transportation to childcare to elderly assistance, to the residents of two of Colorado’s largest rural counties. Pathfinder Solutions supports SCCOG’s efforts to upgrade and add new programs, enhance internal and external communications, develop and implement a strategic plan, and improve Board governance.  

       

¨       Comprehensive Community Grants This project involved research for the Colorado Physical Activiy and Nutrition Program of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (Colorado, 2006). As part of the Conservation Impact team, Alex Mitchell conducted primary and secondary research on issus related to obesity prevention and treatment for seven diverse Colorado communities in order to assist them in developing community-wide plans to prevent and reduce obesity and related chronic diseases. 

     

¨        National Training Library for Adult Protective Services This project was funded by the National Center on Elder Abuse and the National Adult Protective Services Association (national, 2004 to 2006). As a member of the REFT Institute, Alex led the development of a National Training Library for agencies protecting elders and adults with disabilities against abuse, neglect and exploitation. Alex provided on-going technical assistance services to State Units on Aging, Adult Protective Services (APS) and related nonprofit agencies; conducted professional evaluation of 100+ existing training materials; co-created an outline of APS Core Competencies; presented the project at multiple conferences, etc. 

  

¨        After School and Summer Youth Programs Alex served as Program Director for K-12 youth programs at the Family Learning Center in Boulder Colorado (1995 to 1998), where she developed educational and extra-curricular activities for economically disadvantaged, multi-cultural immigrant and refugee youth. Alex trained and managed staff and hundreds of volunteers, and coordinated collaboration with a wide range of non-profit, private, and government agencies. The program won several awards for being a Model Youth Crime and Violence Prevention, including an award from the State Department of Justice.

  

¨        Community Studies & Service Program Alex served as Program Coordinator for a project funded by multiple foundations for San Francisco School Volunteers and the San Francisco Public School District (California, 1989 - 1991). Alex developed this pilot project in six inner-city high schools serving students of various diverse backgrounds. Alex created curriculum, taught classes, and trained and assisted other teachers and college interns. She also facilitated and supervised volunteer opportunities for hundreds of students in over 150 community agencies. Alex coordinated evaluation, a video documentary, public relations and a media campaign. The CSSP program was adopted by the San Francisco School District and then by the state of California. It won several prestigious awards including the Golden Bell and Thousand Points of Light awards.

    

¨       Community Relations Commissioner While still a college student, Alex was hired by the University of Colorado, Boulder to serve as the Community Relations Commissioner for the University of Colorado Student Union (1984 – 1986). In this position, Alex served on the Chancellor Select Committee and the Cultural Events Board, organized a week-long conference on South Africa, chaired presentations at the Conference of World Affairs, worked with the City of Boulder on student housing issues, and conducted an energy conservation survey of the older buildings on the CU campus.
